Muffy Pendergast grew up creating characters and doodling outside of
Philadelphia. She earned a B.S. from Boston College in 1989, which
led to a short but sweet career in advertising and public relations
in NYC. After traveling to Africa and Russia and moving around, she
created her own Temp Agency with a staff of one, out in New York's
Westhampton Beach.
Eventually, family bonds led her to Westport, CT, where she
learned to paint landscapes in oil and watercolor, while
earning a living waitressing or in retail. Simultaneously she studied
art, traveled, and exhibited with her companion, fine artist Frank
Bruckmann. They drove cross country and into Mexico in his small
pick up truck and 2 easels. Together they traveled to France on a few
painting trips, eventually returning to New Haven, CT
where they both maintain their studios and 2 small children!
Back in 1997, when they moved
to New Haven, Muffy decided she would strive to fill the niche
of art for kids' rooms. She put the oil paints away, for the
time being, and worked to grow her new business, Muffy's Room. While
it started as paintings for kids' rooms, Muffy's Room has grown to include
accessories and clothing for children.
